John Cena’s Coming to Fortnite

A character nobody ever saw coming

Fortnite skins have always drawn inspiration from pop culture. Whatever is popular will eventually end up as a skin in Fortnite. Usually, this has been limited to gaming, movies, cartoons, and TV shows. For example, the whole team of Avengers from Marvel’s hit franchise has been adapted. It also has skins of the "rival" hero team of DC and skins for notable game characters. It’s a wonderful array of skins for Fortnite account holders.

WWE’s State
While not as many people watch wrestling shows nowadays, it remains a popular pastime. YouTube and Twitch stats for the company’s various channels show a healthy number of subscribers and viewers. Even with its decrease in popularity, many still have a good amount of interest in professional wrestling; kayfabe, and all that.

It was something of a childhood hobby. Some even act out the moves and stuff with siblings and friends (gently). At any rate, wrestling still counts as part of pop culture, even if it’s on the lower rungs of popularity right now.

John Cena in Popular Culture
John Cena is now, a part-time wrestler, he has more pressing engagements such as branching out to acting in films and TV shows. Cena has also tried to launch a rap career several times. sometimes rapping at his opponents in the ring. He has one certified platinum album under his wrestling championship belt to boot.

His film appearances include The Marine, Suicide Squad, F9, and Bumblebee. Some animated films also have featured his voice. TV show appearances include reality TV and sitcoms, and even guest-starred in Hannah Montana for one episode.

His most famous catchphrase is "you can’t see me," something that has spawned a ton of memes. Often that meant being invisible in specific pictures. Related to this is the "Unexpected John Cena/His name is John Cena" meme as a form of trolling. Since you can’t see him, you wouldn’t expect him. The meme is also accompanied by his usual introduction music, "the Time is Now."

These prove that he is still a relevant person of note in popular culture. It’s no wonder that Fortnite wants his likeness as a skin.

John Cena or Peacemaker?
The wrestler’s role in Suicide Squad is the hero Peacemaker, which fits with the whole pop culture in Fortnite. A search somehow gives results of both skins coming to the game, though. However, the wrestler's skin won’t be released too obviously due to his most popular catchphrase.

Fans would be glad for both. There is a precedent since Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson became the face of The Foundation. This will make John Cena the second WWE star to have his likeness in Fortnite. In his various social media, Cena has been teasing the release of this skin.

As for Peacemaker, consider that other DC heroes already have their skins in the game. Peacekeeper would just be added to their roster. Even if John Cena, the wrestler, would remain unseen, this one would really be expected. 

Whether he’ll have a role like The Rock or just be himself, fans will love his skins. Especially if it comes with the emote that refers to his most popular catchphrase. This will become a new wave of memes and overall enjoyment.

Parting Words
While some rumors are floating around that you can get the John Cena skin this way or that way, nobody has confirmed that it is in the game. However, he has been teasing a collaboration with Fortnite for some time.

The nature of this collaboration has no hint, so it could be either skin, both, or something totally different. Everybody’s hyped about the skins, though, and it is the likeliest result of the collaboration. Even if skins never affect Fortnite stats in any significant way, they’re still an excellent way to express individuality. That is, as much as combinations of skin + back bling + harvesting weapon + glider combinations can afford.

It’s been more than a month after the last teaser; there should be something more to this now. Still, there’s no mention of a release date or confirmation of these things. All we can do is wait for more information or a direct announcement by Epic Games about this.
