I Am Alive

Ubisoft's development of its survival action game, I Am Alive, has taken more twists and turns then a season finale of LOST. Originally announced in 2008 and even shown at E3 with a cinematic trailer, I Am Alive focused on your character surviving a massive earthquake in Chicago and looking for his girlfriend in the chaotic aftermath. Players would have to deal with enemy NPCs that were just as desperate to survive as you are, and there would be added emphasis on finding fresh, drinkable water to stay alive.

 

Since then, over the next three years the game had assigned a new producer (Jason Redmond of the Assassin's Creed series), lost its original developer (Darkworks), assigned a new developer (Ubisoft Shanghai), lost its producer, was rumored to be a XBLA title, had those rumors proved false, and then in 2010 Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, said the entire game was being "re-engineered". Ubi's last reported release date, April 2010-March 2011, has now passed.

 

 

And yet, out of the disastrous rubble of what appears to be vaporware, a game may just emerge after all. A new, leaked trailer of I Am Alive was recently found online and even shows off some gameplay. How old the trailer is or whether or not the game looks anything like it does in the trailer anymore is not known. It is encouraging to note, however, that Ubisoft's recent announcement of canceled games did not include I Am Alive.
