Overview
Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is a sci-fi fighting game developed and digitally published by nWay for the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2019. It was later released for the PlayStation 4 on April 2, 2019 and for the PC on September 24, 2019. It was later released for Google Stadia on June 1, 2020.
Based on the studio's previous adaptation of the Power Rangers series (the 2017 mobile game Power Rangers: Legacy Wars), Battle for the Grid is a traditional fighting game with tag-team mechanics similar to the Marvel vs. Capcom series. It also features a unique "Mega Assist" system where players choose a colossal character (namely the series' Zords) to assist them from off-screen, and complete cross-platform multiplayer and progression support (with PS4 support added on February 5, 2020).
While most of the original set of playable characters are based on the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series (and its 2016 comic book spin-off), the game features characters from multiple eras of the Power Rangers timeline. Additional characters were added as post-release DLC (with a Season Pass system), including guest characters from Capcom's Street Fighter series.
The PS4 and Switch versions of the game received a limited-edition physical release by Limited Run on June 10, 2019. Along with the standard version, a "Mega Edition" was released with a bonus steelbook and other goodies. The game later received a second physical release by Maximum Games on August 10, 2021, dubbed the "Super Edition", which included all DLC and special content prior to the Season 4 Pass.
