Overview
Rage 2 (stylized as RAGE 2) is a science-fiction first-person shooter set in an open-world, post-apocalyptic environment. Jointly developed by Avalanche Studios and id Software, it is the sequel to 2011's Rage.
The game released worldwide for PlayStation 4, Windows and Xbox One on May 14th 2019, and later released as a launch title for Stadia on November 19th.
Gameplay
Rage 2 is a first-person shooter based in an open-world setting. The player controls the aptly named Walker. The gender, clothing, and skills of the character can be customized to some extent. Walker uses powers based on Nanotrite to destroy enemies as well as numerous weapons and tools. Walker can also use their Overdrive power to do more damage, heal, and enemies will drop more energy. As with the first game the player is able to control multiple vehicles to quicken their pace around the world. Nanotrites are another idea brought over from the original Rage which help amplify the characters powers.
Plot
The playable protagonist of Rage 2 is Walker, the last surviving Ranger of a remote settlement called Vineland - which is inhabited by former Ark inhabitants and their descendants. After most of Walker's town is wiped out by a military organization simply known as the Authority, their ultimate goal is to seek revenge against and stop the Authority's leader General Cross.
Development
Unlike the original game, Rage 2 does not use the id Tech engine instead the developers at Avalanche used their own Apex Engine instead. Apex was chosen for it’s ability to create detailed indoor environments and vast open spaces outside without any loading screens.
