With VR opening the environmental landscape of gaming experiences, one recurring theme is space. But what haven’t we seen much of? PvP space-fighting combat — until Ubisoft Montpellier’s Space Junkies was revealed, that is.

First revealed at Ubisoft’s 2017 E3 Press Conference, Space Junkies takes Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive to a galaxy far, far away in intense arena-based combat. With that in mind, Ubisoft has revealed that the game’s beta will be coming Early 2018, exclusively to the Oculus Rift.

Not only is the beta limited to the platform, but it will also be a closed beta — so invitation only. If you are one of the loud and proud Oculus Rift owners, feel free to register for the beta following this link.

And while not everybody will be able to enjoy the beta, Ubisoft has also released a brand new gameplay trailer which is a pretty fun mix of ragdoll nonsense, intense action, and poorly-acted facial expressions on obvious actors. That said, the high-speed zero-gravity gameplay looks undeniably fun.

Speaking of Oculus, the Kickstarted-gone-Facebook company just revealed two brand new projects, including a cheap standalone headset titled Oculus Go and a wire-free portotype called “Project Santa Cruz.” Whether either of these will be available for Space Junkies’ launch is a mystery.

Space Junkies releases exclusively on PC (via Oculus Rift and HTC Vive) in Spring 2018.
