"We bring to bear all 40 compute units and the full 1172MHz clock-speed [of the Scorpio GPU], we're bringing those to bear on all the games possible," says Andrew Goossen. "Now, I have a caveat a bit later about all the compatibility testing we do for these and some of the implications, but we can bring all the 40CUs, all 1172MHz, of course the full 2.3GHz on the CPU."

What this means in practice is that games that cannot fully sustain their target frame-rate on Xbox One stand a really good chance of doing so on Scorpio. But to be clear: what we won't see will be 30fps games suddenly running at 60fps. The game itself still sets its frame-rate target, and there are no functions for removing performance limits.

However, the full six teraflops of graphics power will be deployed to run your existing library of Xbox content. In fact, there's so much raw power here that Microsoft can go one step further. Says Goossen: "We've taken the approach that we do with 360 [games] on Xbox One, where you will never see a torn frame, because we have enough performance there to ensure that."

"So, eight cores, organised as two clusters with a total of 4MB of L2 cache. These are unique customised CPUs for Scorpio running at 2.3GHz. Alluding back to the goals, we wanted to maintain 100 per cent backwards compatibility with Xbox One and Xbox One S while also pushing the performance envelope," says Nick Baker.

The new x86 cores in Scorpio are 31 per cent faster than Xbox One's, with extensive customisation to reduce latency in order to keep the processor occupied more fully, while CPU/GPU coherency also gets a performance uplift. There's significant hardware offloading too - some of which is inherited from Xbox One, some of which is radically new. The audio processor in Xbox One is fully transplanted across to Scorpio and gains new functionality - spatial surround, effectively adding a 'height' component to the existing 7.1 set-up. Scorpio is set to receive support for Dolby Atmos for gaming, Dolby Atmos for headphones plus a Microsoft proprietary format called HRTF, developed by the Hololens team. Because the APB (audio processor block) hardware is basically identical to that found in Xbox One, it means that all existing iterations of the console will get the spatial surround upgrade.

Project Scorpio vs PC: to-the-metal design vs sheer brute force

The closest equivalent to PlayStation 4 Pro's GPU in the PC space, in pure performance terms, is the Radeon RX 470 or an underclocked RX 480 - both mainstream graphics cards. The latter product typically overclocks to hit the same six-teraflop compute output as Project Scorpio. However, teraflop comparisons here simply do not reflect real-world results. With one or two exceptions, the 'next-gen' upscaling techniques used on PS4 Pro don't tend to exist in the PC space - and software-level PC upscalers that can produce great results still only manifest in a minority of games. On both counts, we expect things to change rapidly, but the bottom line is that right now, consoles are capable of producing some great 4K results even if the technical sleight of hand required to get there means that it's not strictly speaking a 'proper' native ultra HD resolution. This means more bang for your buck from your console purchase.

The bottom line is that Scorpio's six teraflops will almost certainly go a lot further than an equivalent PC part. I asked Microsoft about this specifically, and they raise a number of good arguments that make the case strongly. Firstly, that their shader compiler is far more efficient than PC equivalents (think of shaders as native GPU code). Secondly, addressing the hardware directly via their API and with access to console-specific GPU extensions again adds to the advantage of a fixed platform box. And finally, they point to their optimisation software - PIX (Performance Inspector for Xbox) - as a tool that provides the path to console-specific optimisations that PC simply cannot get.

From what I've seen so far, there is some evidence that Scorpio's true 4K performance could pose a challenge to the likes of Nvidia's GTX 1070 and AMD's Fury X-class hardware. I've seen Microsoft's new console running a Forza Motorsport 6-level experience locked to 4K60 on the equivalent to PC's ultra settings - cranking up the quality presets to obscene levels was one of the first things developer Turn 10 did when confronted with the sheer amount of headroom it had left after a straight Xbox One port. Out of interest, we tested Forza 6 Apex with similar settings at 4K on GTX 1060, 1070 and 1080. Frames were dropped on GTX 1060 (and a lot of them when wet weather conditions kicked in), while GTX 1070 held firm with only the most intense wet weather conditions causing performance dips. Only GTX 1080 held completely solid in all test cases. It's only one data point, and the extent to which the code is comparable at all is debatable, but it certainly doesn't harm Scorpio's credentials: Forza 6 Apex received plenty of praise for the quality of its PC port.

"As we landed on 4K, Andrew [Goossen] and team did a pretty deep analysis," Gammill continues. "We have this developer tool called PIX [Performance Investigator for Xbox]. It lets us do some GPU trace capture. He and his team did a really deep analysis across a breadth of titles with the goal that any 900p or better title would be able to easily run at frame-rate at 4K on Scorpio. That was our big stake in the ground, and so with that we began our work speccing out what the Scorpio Engine is. It's not a process of calling up AMD and saying I'll take this part, this part and this part. A lot of really specific custom work went into this."

Traditionally, games creators have to work to the characteristics of the console platform, but because Scorpio's design brief was to scale up existing titles to 4K, the hardware team could profile actual, shipping games and customise the design to fit common characteristics. PIX provided the data that was then fed into a hardware emulator, where the Microsoft team could then see how those titles would run on prospective Scorpio hardware. Multiple configurations could be tested in order to get the best balance.

"What we did was to take PIX captures from all of our top developers... By hand we went through them and then extrapolated what the work involved would be for that game to support a 4K render resolution," says Andrew Goossen, Technical Fellow, Graphics. "Now we had a model for all of our top-selling Xbox One games where we could tweak the configuration for the number of CUs, the clock, the memory bandwidth, the number of render back-ends, the number of shader engines, the cache size. We could tweak our design and figure out what was the most optimal configuration. It was incredibly valuable for us to be able to make those trade-offs, because ultimately these Xbox One titles are the ones that we... wanted to get up to 4K."

forza 6 pagerinta xbox scorpio 4k

This is Forza Motorsport 6, they said they ported this over to the Scorpio in two days and have it running at 4K.

The Scorpio features system-wide downsampling for games which render above 1080p, this improves the image quality for people using 1080p displays.

Games which feature dynamic resolutions will be able to take advantage of the Scorpio's additional GPU power.

This a a game changer for GPU tech

"We essentially moved Direct3D 12," says Goossen. "We built that into the command processor of the GPU and what that means is that, for all the high frequency API invocations that the games do, they'll all natively implemented in the logic of the command processor - and what this means is that our communication from the game to the GPU is super-efficient."

Processing draw calls - effectively telling the graphics hardware what to draw - is one of the most important tasks the CPU carries out. It can suck up a lot of processor resources, a pipeline that traditionally takes thousands - perhaps hundreds of thousands - of CPU instructions. With Scorpio's hardware offload, any draw call can be executed with just 11 instructions, and just nine for a state change.

"It's a massive win for us and for the developers who've adopted D3D12 on Xbox, they've told us they've been able to cut their CPU rendering overhead by half, which is pretty amazing because now the driver portion of that is such a tiny fraction," adds Goossen.

Also :)

"The bottom line is that Scorpio's six teraflops will almost certainly go a lot further than an equivalent PC part. zada visu zaidimu downsamplinga i 1080p jei toki ekrana busi pasijunges. bei galesi rinktis performance ar rezos variantus. panasiai kaip dabar su ps4 pro dauguma zaidimu bet ne visais.

Regular Digital Foundry readers will know that we've been vocal about all PS4 Pro modes being available to all users, regardless of the display attached to the console.
Performance modes should be accessible to 4K users, while ultra HD rendering should super-sample down for those 1080p displays.

Microsoft has mandated this to all developers
, along with the requirement that all titles should run at the same frame-rate or higher as the standard Xbox One.

even with a regular 1080p TV, you'll be able to choose between performance modes that make the game run better, or resolution modes that will then "supersample" the 4K image down to your 1080p display, which should give you superb image quality - basically, a fantastically smooth and pretty picture. It's like having the ultimate anti-aliasing solution.

O del manes tas scorpio gali but ir dvigubai galingesne konsole uz PS4, bet, kad turinio neturi jokio pasiulyt...

    • Right now, ARC Raiders has that pre-update feeling where every run matters a bit more than usual. With Riven Tides getting close, loads of players are pushing trials hard, stacking XP, and trying not to waste a single decent drop. Some are even looking for faster ways to buy Raider Tokens so they can head into the next patch better prepared. Fair enough, honestly. This week's trial list isn't impossible, but it does ask for a bit of planning, and a couple of tasks can go sideways fast if you treat them like standard checklist stuff. Lightning Touch This one sounds silly until you try it and get flattened. To finish Lightning Touch, you need to be in the Marshlands during an Electromagnetic Storm and live through a direct lightning hit. That last part is where most runs fall apart. You can't just sprint around in open water and hope for the best. You need enough health, some defensive setup, and a route that doesn't leave you exposed to everything else on the map. The storm itself is already messy. Add enemy pressure and bad footing, and it turns into chaos. Still, when it finally works, you'll know. There's that split second where you think you're done, then somehow you're still standing. Swamp Sweep and Resource Extraction Swamp Sweep is more grounded, but it can drag if you go in with the wrong loadout. The ARC units in the marshy parts of the Dam Battlegrounds are annoying to spot, and the terrain slows you down just enough to make every fight feel awkward. A solid mid-range weapon helps more than people think. You don't want to be too close in that mud, and long-range isn't always practical with all the clutter. Then there's Resource Extraction, which is probably the most stressful of the bunch. Calling in high-value air drops sounds simple on paper. In practice, it's a giant signal flare saying, come fight me. If you're solo, set traps early and keep moving between bits of cover. If you've got a squad, one person watching the flanks makes a huge difference. Comet Destruction Comet Destruction is the trial that wastes the most time if you're unlucky. The Comet ARC units don't exactly line up for you. They move, they disappear, and if your damage is weak, the fight gets drawn out fast. Burst damage is the safe play here. A sniper works, sure, but anything that lets you hit hard before they reposition is worth bringing. It's also one of those jobs where patience matters more than aggression. A lot of players rush the chase and end up burning resources for nothing. Better to track carefully, get your angle, and commit when you know you can finish it cleanly. Why this week matters That's really why these trials matter more than they might've a month ago. Riven Tides is close enough now that every bit of progress feels useful, whether that's gear, XP, or just learning how to handle rougher encounters under pressure. If you're trying to go into the update with a stronger setup, it makes sense to squeeze this week for all it's worth, and plenty of players also keep U4GM in mind for game currency and item support when they want to save time and stay ready for the next grind.
    • Diamond Dynasty feels a bit frantic right now. That big April 10 update dumped a ton on everyone, and this weekend is where most players either catch up or fall behind. If you're still short on progress, now's the time to lock in. Some people are grinding every spare inning, others are cleaning out the market, and a lot of us are doing both. As a professional platform for in-game currency and items, u4gm is known for being convenient and reliable, and you can buy MLB The Show 26 stubs in u4gm if you want a smoother ride while putting the rest of your squad together. XP choices that actually matter The 2nd Inning program is the main pressure point, no question. You can feel it every time you load in. People are chasing those last chunks of XP and trying to decide which boss makes more sense. Randy Johnson or Babe Ruth has become one of those debates that won't die, and honestly, I get why. Early in the year, an elite starter can carry you through a lot of rough games, so Randy has real value. Then again, Babe is Babe. One swing changes a game, and power cards tend to stay useful for a long time. If you're still working missions, don't ignore that 91 OVR Carlos Correa card. His swing plays better than some people expected, and he's one of those cards that quietly helps you stack stats without forcing your lineup into something awkward. Weekend Classic cards and the market shift The other big story is the Weekend Classic ending on Tuesday, April 14. That's where the market gets interesting. Reward cards like 92 OVR Victor Martinez and 92 OVR Bernie Williams are sitting in that familiar spot where supply still exists, but not for much longer. Once the event closes, no fresh cards are coming in. That's usually when prices start creeping, then jump when people realise they waited too long. If one of those guys is part of your long-term lineup, buying before the cutoff makes sense. If you're holding extras, this is the part where patience matters. A lot of experienced players wait for the first wave of post-event panic and then sell into it. Why selling now might be the smart move The April Spotlight Drop 2 market has calmed down enough that you can make clean decisions without guessing every ten minutes. That matters. This is a good window to go through your binder and be honest about what you're actually using. If a card isn't making your Ranked squad, isn't helping with missions, and isn't tied to a collection you care about right now, it's probably worth moving. Plenty of players hang onto too much fluff and then get caught short when the next content wave lands. Building up a stub balance before another mid-April release is just smart roster management. It gives you room to react instead of scrambling. Getting ready for the next reset So the plan for the next couple of days is pretty simple. Finish the XP grind, make a real decision on your boss pick, use the cards that speed up mission progress, and don't let event rewards sit in your binder without a purpose. This part of the cycle always feels messy, but that's also where sharp players get ahead. A little prep now saves a lot of regret later, and if you need a reliable place many players already know for game currency and item support, U4GM is often part of that conversation while people get themselves ready for the next drop.
    • The Fairytale Partners event lands on April 14, 2026 at 1:00 PM UTC, and if you've been sitting on a pile of dice waiting for something worth burning them on, this is probably it. The event only runs until April 19, so there's not much room to drift through the first day and “figure it out later.” If you're already planning your sticker progress too, plenty of players also keep an eye on places to buy Monopoly Go Stickers while they push event rewards, since this kind of five-day sprint can line up nicely with album goals. Just make sure your account has reached board level 5 before you try to join, because that tiny requirement still catches people every single time. How the event actually works If you've played a partner event before, you'll settle in fast. You team up with four partners and work on four separate fairytale-themed builds. Progress comes from event tokens, and those tokens mostly come from daily milestones, banner events, and tournaments. Once you've got enough, you spin the partner wheel and hope the game feels generous for once. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it absolutely doesn't. That's the part nobody can control. What you can control is how often you're active, when you roll, and whether you're wasting dice chasing low-value rewards when a stronger tournament window is right around the corner. Pick people who'll actually play This is where runs usually fall apart. A lot of players rush their invites, fill empty slots with randoms, and then spend the next four days carrying dead weight. It sounds obvious, but don't partner with anyone unless you trust them to log in and contribute. Friends are best. An active Discord group works too. You want people who respond, not people who vanish after the first few spins. A balanced team matters more than lucky wheel drops. If each person handles their share, the event feels manageable. If one or two players go missing, it turns into a dice sink fast, and that's usually when frustration kicks in. One build first, then move on A smart way to approach this is to finish one landmark before spreading tokens across the whole board. A lot of players split progress too early because they want to see movement everywhere. It looks nice, sure, but it slows down the rewards that could actually help you. Completing one build gets milestone prizes back into your account sooner, and that often means extra dice you can push straight into the next tournament cycle. That little boost matters more than people think. You'll also get a clearer read on which partner is pulling their weight and which one might need a nudge before the event gets deep. Why the grind is still worth it The main reason people go hard in these events is simple: the full clear reward is stacked. If your team finishes all four landmarks, you're looking at 5,000 dice, a guaranteed 5-star sticker pack, and limited cosmetics that usually disappear once the event ends. That's a strong return for five days of focused play. It's still a grind, no question, and the wheel can be cruel at the worst time. Even so, good planning makes a huge difference, and a lot of regular players keep tools like RSVSR on their radar for game-item support while they prep for heavy events like this, especially when every roll and reward starts to matter a bit more than usual.
    • When it comes to healthcare, students in the United States often look for services that are fast, reliable, and easy to access. Naudingos komandos: • /vipmenu • /vips • /rtv • /timeleft • /rank • /top15 Šiuo projektu noriu sukurti normalią vietą tiek lietuviams, tiek užsienio žaidėjams – be fake online, be bereikalingo šlamšto, be chaoso. Jeigu ieškai paprasto, prižiūrimo ir stabilaus CS 1.6 Public serverio – kviečiu užsukti, išbandyti ir pasižiūrėti, ar patiks. IP: 46.36.77.173:10220 Discord: dsc.gg/ltdomasas
