The game really has come together, and it’s such an incredible relief. As we sit an play it now, and as I watch playtesters every day, I can finally let myself get excited. We’re actually doing this.

However, as we approached our final deadlines, we realized that some key moments needed extra polish to bring them up to our standards. I have had to make the tough choice to delay the game for a few weeks to allow us to deliver something special.

After a short delay, No Man’s Sky will launch in North America on August 9, in Europe August 10, and in the UK August 12.

We understand that this news is disappointing. Making this game is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but we are so close now, and we’re prepared to make the tough choices to get it right.

AN UPDATE ON NO MAN’S SKY Sean Murray | June 24, 2016

Hello, Sean here, working super, super hard on No Man’s Sky.

Every day, the game is getting better and better, and despite all the late nights (and early mornings) we’re all working to get it finished and in your hands, it’s amazing to see it all coming together.

You might already know this, but we had to delay the game from its original June release date. It’s now August 9 in north America, and August 10 in Europe. We knew that people would be disappointed, and we’ve certainly heard a lot from some who decided to tell us all about that. But we’ve also heard some super nice words of support as we make the final push.

I’ve said it before, but No Man’s Sky is the hardest thing I’ve ever worked on. It’s even bigger than you can imagine. This is a type of game that hasn’t been attempted before, by a smaller team than anyone would expect, under an intense amount of expectation.

And despite all of that, development is genuinely going well. This is the hardest working, most talented team I’ve ever worked with, and I’m so proud of what we’re doing. For all our sakes though, we get one shot to make this game and we can’t mess it up.

So that’s what we’re doing right now, and every day I feel more sure it was the right decision. Thank you so much for your support and patience. The universe will be yours very soon.

Hello Games estimates there will be over 18 quintillion planets in No Man's Sky's universe, which would take 5 billion years to explore.

For those who are asking how Hello Games managed to fit a big game like No Man's Sky in just 6GB of disc space. It is because of the fact that the ton of content in No Man's Sky is procedurally generated.

In addition to this, Sean Murray also revealed that No Man's Sky has already passed certification process in Europe, US, and Asia, whereas certification for Japan is still pending.

Additionally, Murray revealed that the development team at Hello Games have already started work on the first update for the game.
