The Walking Dead : Survival Instinct

The game will tell the story of Daryl Dixon and his brother Merle on who are on a “haunting, unforgiving quest to make their way to the supposed safety of Atlanta.”

Players will control Daryl while avoiding zombies that hunt using sight, sound and smell. You can choose to fight them or avoid them.

“No place is truly safe for Daryl as he makes his way through the Georgia countryside in this new, post-apocalyptic world,” said Activision.

Supplies will be scarce and players will need to manage resources. Many other characters from the series will be encountered as well. They can even choose to follow Daryl if the player desires.

The Walking Dead will hit stores in 2013 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

- Need to peek around dumpsters to see what you’re coming up against, hurl glass bottles you’ve collected to distract the herd, and keep the running to a minimum so you don’t have sweat roll down your FPS screen and give off that smell walkers can’t resist

- Game has shooting and stabbing, but the team is focused on bringing the rules of the show to the game

- Will find out how Daryl comes across his crossbow

- As you come across people in need of help – people that could become fellow group members – you get to start taking inventory of your squad

- Can send someone in your group out on missions while you take on the FPS mission

- Before leaving camp, you can assign a group member to a particular mission

- Can choose to give this person a weapon or item, but there’s no guarantee the person will come back

- Missions split into two groups: Waypoint Missions and Road Events

- Waypoint Missions: pick if you’re going to Point A or Point B (let’s say a sheriff’s station or a camp)

- Road Events: clear a congested highway or waste the gas to go the long way around the obstruction

- Need supplies from Road Events’ quests

- Can run out of gas on the highway, and then the game ends (while giving you the chance to restart from a checkpoint)

- Scavenging and putting yourself at risk are keys to surviving

- Some graphical inconsistencies
