Adobe: Flash 11 to have browser games comparible to PS3/Xbox 360

Adobe is conscious about how they no longer can take Flash Player’s position on the Web for granted with lots of new alternatives from opposing brands are entering the browser-based plugin market. This is the reason why the company plans to ship Flash Player 11, there latest Flash plugin in two weeks’ time.

It’ll be launched during the company’s Max developer conference early next month in order to send a strong message: Flash isn’t out of market, the Adobe is going to push it.

Flash 11 will perhaps be the most advanced Flash plug-in to date, with an interface called Molehill which enables hardware-accelerated 3D and 2D graphics. Although it might not be enough to either please Apple or Microsoft, both of whom have kept their hands off the plug-in, but it’ll still do a lot considering it’ll enabled for much for powerful video-games to be developed for web-browsers and one of the Flash’s forte is web-based games.

Danny Winokur, Adobe’s platform general manager claimed that with Flash’s new found ability to animate millions of objects at a frame rate of 50, people can expect home-console like graphic output for Flash-based games.

“With direct access to the GPU [graphics processing unit], you’ll see a thousand times faster rendering over prior versions of Flash,” said Danny Winokur, Adobe’s platform general manager. With the ability to animate millions of objects at a screen refresh rate of 50 frames per second, people can expect “console-quality games” such as those on an Xbox or PS3, but in a Web browser.

Adobe’s also added 64-bit support for the new version of the plug-in.

Nu kad prilygs PS3/Xbox 360 grafikai tai nelabai norisi tikėti... Nors žinoma, kad smagu žaisti browser'inius žaidimus su 2008-2011 metų PC žaidimų grafika... Išties smagiai skamba

Flash 11 and AIR 3 landing tonight and delivering 7.1 surround sound to connected home theaters

Later tonight Adobe Flash 11 and AIR 3 will hit the tubes delivering with it a host of new features, including hardware acceleration for 2D and 3D graphics -- at least for desktops. Stage 3D support will be added to the mobile variants for Android, iOS and BlackBerry at a later date. AIR 3 will also be sprucing up connected entertainment devices, like Samsung SmartTVs, with the ability to deliver Flash-based games and content to your home theater system. What's more, Adobe has baked in support for both Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound. That means both 5.1 and 7.1 sound can be built into an AIR app, whether it be a game or streaming video, and pumped out at up to 512Kbps though your Blu-ray player or other connected theater component.

Unreal Engine 3 Now Works in Flash. Yes, the Same Flash That’s In Your Browser, Facebook

What if one of the world's most popular 3D engines, the same one used to power many of the most popular console games in the world, also ran in your web browser? That would be pretty interesting, right?

Things just got interesting: Epic Games has announced that their incredibly popular Unreal Engine 3 now works in Adobe Flash, demoing a version of Unreal Tournament 3 running inside the new Adobe Flash Player 11.

That means porting existing games to work in a browser-based solution—and there are a ton of games on Unreal Engine 3—would be more or less turnkey.

A quick look at the screenshots provided by Epic indicate that the engine isn't as powerful as a non-browser-based engine—no big surprise there—but that it's still very much a "real" 3D experience. (I haven't yet seen the engine in motion.)

Even better, developers will be able to migrate their games from, say, iOS over to a browser-based environment without much hassle, making it possible to easily sell browser-based games that play the same games as apps on mobile devices.

But the real thing that should make you arch an eyebrow is Facebook. Nearly every game you can play on Facebook runs on Flash. And now Flash can run hardware-accelerated 3D, just like Real Games.
