The Gotham City Impostors closed beta begins in September.

Sign-ups to the beta are now open.

"Be aware that this is a closed beta with a limited number of codes, but when we start sending them out we'll be sure and let everyone know on Twitter and Facebook," developer Monolith said on the Gotham City Impostors website.

Multiplayer first-person shooter Gotham City Impostors is a download-only game for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 due out next year.

It features 1000 levels of player advancement and plenty of upgrades and unlocks.

Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive had originally intended to release the title on PC, PSN and Xbox Live on 10th January. No explanation was given for the delay.

"Gotham City Impostors is a weird mix of the familiar and the unexpected," wrote Eurogamer's Christian Donlan in his recent Gotham City Impostors preview.

"In other words: a licensed shooter with XP unlocks and realistic environments, in which you can wade into battle armed with a bullhorn and a Jack-in-the-Box, wearing a pair of cardboard bat ears."

A public beta for Gotham City Imposters is now available on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace, publisher Warner Bros. has announced.

The Batman-inspired shooter features team-based warfare in a civil war-torn Gotham City.

You play as fully-customisable Gotham citizens, fighting either for Batman or Joker.

Xbox 360 folk can sign up for a download key at Gotham City Imposters.com. PlayStation 3 players can nab the download directly from their console's PSN store.

Gotham City Imposters is due to fully launch next month on PC, PSN and XBLA.

Gotham City Imposters has a new release date again.

Got 320 points? Then you may be interested in the "Bats Shirt - Naked Aggression" torso option you can select when customising your character.

There are loads of virtual clothing items and companion partners to choose from.

Interestingly, on the Games for Windows Live marketplace are XP Boost add-ons. The solo one costs £1.35 and the team one costs £0.67. They give you or your team double XP gain for one hour.

The XP boost add-ons are currently not available for the Xbox 360 version.

Gamers are already calling Gotham City Impostors, a 6 V 6 online shooter for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, Warner Bros. Interactive's Team Fortress 2 - and have complained at how much it would cost to buy enough items to customise your character.
