Burnout Crash

The next title in the long-running Burnout Series is set to be a family friendly top-down arcade… thing. The player will still be triggering crashes at intersections, they’ll just be doing so from an entirely new angle.

Check out this direct quote from the ESRB below;

“This is an action game in which players earn points for creating traffic pileups. From a top-down perspective, players initiate crashes by driving ‘cartoony’ vehicles (e.g., cars, trucks, vans, buses) into busy intersections; multiple crashes trigger score multipliers and rack up large ‘bills’ of property damage. Each level is accompanied by crashing sounds, small explosions, and vocal encouragement (e.g., ‘Cool,’ ‘Maximum Carnage!’). In some levels, players are instructed to crash into police cars (e.g., ‘Crash them before they bust you!’); in other sequences, oversized airplanes, tornados, lobster monsters, and UFOs slide across the screen, destroying any vehicles in their path.”

We’ll be looking for more news regarding this title and the development team working on it. With the immensely popular (and awesome) Hot Pursuit under their belt, does Burnout Crash signal a move into the casual gaming scene or is this a Ubisoft/Crytek-style split for the popular developer?

The Burnout racing series is getting a brand-new addition in the form of Burnout Crash, an Xbox Live Arcade and PSN game that will be released in the fall. The game features modes designed to encourage players to crash into traffic and rack up points. Check out the news and screens below.

Burnout Crash will take players on a romp through high-traffic areas of the city in an attempt to wreak the most havoc possible. Criterion Games is going back to the roots of the franchise by bringing the popular crash mode to the forefront of the game.

The game is also the first EA Xbox Live Arcade game to feature a mode designed exclusively for use with the Xbox Kinect. Players will use gesture controls to fight one another in a party battle mode.

With three game modes and 18 crash junctions in six unique areas, the game is sure to bring a ton of exciting action to the Xbox Live Arcade and PSN. Check out three new screens that feature the brand new top-down gameplay.

The game will be available on the Xbox Live Arcade and PSN in Fall 2011.
