UK supermarket giant Asda has lowered its Wii U prices for a second time - to just £149 for a Basic model, or £199 for a Premium.

Up to 15 EA titles may not be released on Wii U

Mass Effect 4, Dragon Age 3, and Battlefield 4 are extremely unlikely to be released for the Nintendo Wii U, EA in-house studio DICE has revealed.

According to DICE, the issue is that the Wii U is not capable of running the Frostbite 2 engine it currently uses in its current generation games, and some which are launch early next generation.

The studio also confirmed that EA has dumped all plans to test and port its upcoming Frostbite 3 engine to the Wii U. Frostbite 3 is using to develop many of its upcoming games, starting with Battlefield 4.

The revelation is grave news for Nintendo's next generation console.

Analysts and industry commentators had already spoken about their concerns that the console would not be able to keep up with Microsoft and Sony's upcoming consoles.

However, comments from DICE technical director Johan Andersson suggest that the console cannot even keep up with the Xbox 360 or PS3 – seven and six year old technologies respectively.

Replying to a tweet from a gamer, Andersson revealed that "FB3 has never been running on WiiU. We did some tests with not too promising results with FB2 & chose not to go down that path."

UK retail behemoth Asda has removed Wii U games and consoles from its supermarket shelves.

The chain will continue to sell Wii U products online via its Asda Direct website, it told Eurogamer, but no longer through its stores.

"Asda continues to offer customers a selection of Wii U games and accessories through Asda Direct, but these ranges are currently not on offer in Asda shops," a spokesperson said.

Asda has yet to explain the reasoning for its decision, but its likely due to the ongoing sales struggle faced by the console in the UK - and worldwide.

The supermarket was previously home to a killer £199 price-tag for the Wii U Premium bundle, and is still offering the Wii U Basic for £149 online. Was this just to clear stock, ahead of the system's removal from stores?

The move ironically comes just as Nintendo finally starts releasing software for Wii U again. The brilliant Pikmin 3 launched in the UK last week alongside New Super Mario Bros. expandalone New Super Luigi U. The Wonderful 101 and Ubisoft-developed Rayman Legends both arrive in August, meanwhile.

Nintendo announced this morning that the Wii U had sold just 160,000 consoles sold globally in the three months to the end of June 2013. Wii U has now sold 3.61 million units worldwide.

Developers have indicated that the Wii U isn't as powerful in graphics terms as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Separate development sources, speaking under condition of anonymity, told GamesIndustry International that when it comes to visuals, the Wii U is "not as capable" as Sony and Microsoft's current generation of home consoles.

"No, it's not up to the same level as the PS3 or the 360," one developer said of Nintendo's first high definition home console. "The graphics are just not as powerful."

Another source stated: "Yeah, that's true. It doesn't produce graphics as well as the PS3 or the 360. There aren't as many shaders, it's not as capable. Sure, some things are better, mostly as a result of it being a more modern design. But overall the Wii U just can't quite keep up."

wo new Wii U bundles have been unveiled by Nintendo of Japan, each containing games, accessories and a subscription to the console's new Karaoke service.

Both bundles include the 32GB Premium Wii U model - now in either white and black flavours - plus a sensor bar, Wii Remote Plus and 30 days of Karaoke access, GoNintendo reported.

The cheaper of the two bundles (priced 32,800 yen, about £206) includes New Super Mario Bros. U and Wii Party U.

The more expensive (34,800 yen, about £220) includes New Super Mario Bros. U and Wii Party U, Wii Fit U and a Wii Fit Meter (but not a Balance Board).

All games arrive pre-installed on the console hardware.

"This is a Japanese announcement and Nintendo Europe has nothing to announce at this time," a Nintendo UK spokesperson told Eurogamer this morning.

Europe's own recently-announced bundles include a Premium console with a digital copy of either Lego City Undercover or Zelda: Wind Waker HD - both cost £249 at GAME and launch next month.

Nintendo is rolling out a new Wii U system update that adds Wii remote play - but there's a catch.

Update 4.0.0 adds the ability to output video and sound to the Wii U GamePad when using Wii Mode. In other words, you can play Wii games on your Wii U GamePad while your TV is switched off.

It's a welcome feature, but, you still need to use the Wiimote to control the game.

Elsewhere, the update adds the ability to share screenshots to social networks, adds support for USB keyboards and adds the ability to automatically receive recommended software and demos from Nintendo using SpotPass.
