Stephen Colbert Already Wants An iPad 3

 

The iPad 2 came out a few weeks ago and it’s still the hot new gadget among Apple aficionados and average consumers, right? I mean, some people didn’t even get the chance to buy one, as they’re still waiting in line at the local Apple Store hoping for new stock to become available. Stephen Colbert got one though, he loved it as a device to send emails and tweets or check out his photos…and then he got tired of it. “Anyone know when the iPad 3 is coming out?”, he asks. “I just want something new, you know?”

iPad 3 to Support 3D Display?

According to RCR Wireless sources that Apple is now planning on incorporating 3D technology into it's upcoming iPad 3.

The fact that the iPad 3 is 3D is a dead cert, one Hollywood insider close to the big movie studios told RCR, adding that the screen would be the real magic. She went on to say that the big film studios were currently running around like blue arsed flies trying to gear up to release plenty of 3D content in time for Apple’s next launch.



We're not sure about the reliability of these sources, but Apple has clearly been exploring 3D technology over the years as evidenced by numerous patent applications. Not all of this research has been in the typical 3D technology found in recent movies and television sets. Some of the research has been in pseudo-3D technologies that involve head tracking that was effectively demoed in a recent iPad app. 3D, of course, has also been a big recent trend with the release of many 3D TVs, 3D movies, and Nintendo's 3DS handheld gaming console.

More evidence come from the Japanese blog Macotakara, which confirmed that Apple's LCD supplier was starting to manufacture small glasses-free 3D LCD panels for iPod touch.

iPad 3 Will Hit Assembly Lines By The End Of This Year [REPORT]

Its Monday and the buzz this morning is about the Apple iPad 3 going into production before the end of the year. This news is coming from Jeffrey Fidacaro, an analyst over at Susquehanna Financial Group.



What is being said is that manufacturers have been ordered to start manufacturing one million iPads in the fourth quarter of the year. This news comes from many analysts trying to predict what the iPhone 4S means for the future of Apple as a company and where they stand fiscally for the company’s last two quarters, including this current one. Apple is set to announce the company’s results on October 18th.

In Fidacaro’s report he references his colleague’s report on the iPad where other analysts were questioning the current increase in iPad production:

We believe AAPL pulled production forward to ensure sufficient availability of iPad during the holidays, and such a move is consistent with a production decline in advance of the new model launch (we believe iPad 3 starts production in 4Q, as noted below). Thus, we believe that recent competitor reports, which only noted the 4Q production volumes two weeks ago, were misinformed. iPad 3 appears on the forecast for 4Q production start. Our checks indicate that iPad 3 has now shown up on AAPL’s production forecast for a late-4Q production start. We believe 0.6 mln-1 mln units are forecasted for 4Q production

This is great news if this pans out. As I stated in an earlier post, hopefully the iPad 3 will pave the way for what we will see in the new iPhone 5. BGR is speculating that the announcement of the iPad Mini; a less expensive option, is right around the corner. BGR noted that the Mini would most likely not be smaller in size but will compete with the Kindle Fire offered by Amazon. With Steve Jobs working on one last major project before his death, I believe that we will see the upgraded hardware, that we all desire, soon. Here is to Apple continuing to provide some knock out devices, leaving other manufacturers to play catch up in 2012. Maybe we will see the likes of Google Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich ironing out the kinks and providing a better user experience and taking control of the multi-core processors that are currently flooding the market. Even with the upset of Apple’s iPhone 4S not changing much externally, they still managed to sell over 4 million units alone this weekend. That’s an amazing amount of devices pushed out in a very very short course of time.

iPad 4 boasts "much upgraded" hardware and "integrated applications", enabling it to compete with the army of new Android and Windows 8-based tablets due late 2012.

A two-pronged, cheap and pricey approach allows Apple's iPad to both attack entry-level devices like Kindle Fire and Google's budget tablet, as well as see off challengers in the high-end market it dominates.

Reputable news agency Bloomberg has thrown further behind weight rumours that Apple is readying iPad 3 for release this March.

Sources close to Apple apparently told Bloomberg that iPad 3 will ship in March, resplendent with quad-core processor and higher screen resolution.

Mass production is said to be already under way, with controversial Chinese manufacturer Foxconn running factories 24 hours a day to meet demand. Cringe.

The report stated that iPad 3 will support 4G wireless standard LTE, and have "more pixels on its screen than some high-definition televisions" - enough to make images "look like printed material".

The Bloomberg report backs up what we've already heard - that Apple will release iPad 3 in March and iPad 4 in October.

Official: Apple iPad 3 event slated for March 7th

Yes, it's finally, really happened. We just received our invite for Apple's next big event — almost certainly where the announcement of the iPad 3 (or iPad HD, or some other name no one has guessed yet) will take place. As you can see in the image above, that's no regular iPad display. It appears to be a higher resolution than the iPad or iPad 2. Also, the casing of the product pictured looks darker than current iPad models. It's hard to say if that's a trick of lighting or not.
