Is HDMI Mirroring the next step to Apple home gaming?

 

Apple showed its HDMI mirroring product with little fanfare yesterday but more than one commenter has us thinking that this might be an interesting gaming option. Obviously Angry birds mirrored onto an HDTV won’t change the world, but perhaps playing some of the more hard core games over a wire might be something special.

 

Think about it. You’ve got a device in your hands that has a multi-touch screen, accelerometer, gyro and a crazy hardcore 1080P graphics processor.

 

And it is connected to your HDTV with mirroring. OK, that connector could be a lot less bulky.

 

Also rememeber AirPlay has a slight delay so you can’t really game the same way you can over a wire.

 

So, while Apple shows a teacher plugging in an iPad to her HDTV, we’re thinking that’s a great way to play games. Thoughts? Yay or nay?

New SteelSeries gaming headsets come to CeBIT, now iPhone compatible

As you might have heard, a little something called CeBIT is going down in Hanover, and all the usual suspects are there. And that includes the kids at SteelSeries, who are debuting three more headsets for the gamers in the crowd. Siberia v2 for PS3 is compatible with the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac, featuring 50mm driver units, leather earcups, and a retractable microphone for your clumsy pick-up attempts while playing Assassin's Creed. This bad boy also features independent volume controls for game action and conversation, as well as LiveMix audio presets. But wait -- there's more! The company's Siberia v2 and SteelSeries 7H headsets are now available in Apple-approved flavors with a single 3.5mm jack for audio and voice, an inline remote, and compatibility with your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad. Look for the Siberia v2 for PS3 in Q3 2011 for $120 MSRP. Look for SteelSeries 7H and Siberia v2 for iPod, iPhone and iPad soon for $130 and $100 respectively. PR after the break.

RoboTouch brings a wired NES controller to a wireless iPad

Oh Arduino, is there anything you can't do when put in the right hands? The hands in this case belong to a guy named Joven of ProtoDojo, and they whipped up the contraption you can see in the video below. Basically, it's a wired NES controller that goes to an Arduino board, which in turn controls a set of servos. Those servos articulate conductive arms to touch the screen in just the right places. The whole contraption enables a rather playable version of Reckless Racing, making it feel all the more like the RC Pro Am successor it's trying to be. Check it out in the video below, and then hope that Jovan hurries up and posts the instructions so we can start building our own.
