Another Angry Birds Seasons Update Coming: St. Patrick’s Day Version

The iPad 2 is just around the corner now, but the Angry Birds news just won’t stop coming in. After thanking Apple for all their efforts to build the App Store system that allowed Angry Birds to sell millions of copies, Rovio CEO Peter Vesterbacka confirmed at a GDC panel that another update for Angry Birds Seasons is coming, and this time will feature special levels for St. Patrick’s Day.

 

What’s St. Patrick’s Day, you ask? It’s an Irish holiday for the patron saint, where people wear green (the national color of Ireland) and, well, usually drink a lot of beer. Should we expect green-based levels? Maybe. Drunken birds and beer kegs? We have our doubts about that.

 

But hey, you never know what to expect from Rovio. The update will be available before St. Patrick’s Day, which is on March 17. It’ll be free for all existing Angry Birds Seasons customers.

Angry Birds Seasons: St. Patrick’s Day Edition Now Available

As previously reported, Rovio has finally released a new update for Angry Birds Seasons, which now comes themed for Ireland’s St. Patrick’s Day. The update features “green levels” (green is Ireland’s national color), 15 new levels, new achievements and more.

Have the Luck of the Irish and Go Green with this episode of Angry Birds Seasons: The St. Patrick’s Day Edition! After the love fest of Valentines, Angry Birds Seasons is back with the greenest update to date. May Irish eyes shine upon you and as usual Angry Birds gives the most generous updates of any app!

Angry Birds HD Updated: 15 New Levels

Just in time for the release of the iPad 2, Rovio updated (again) Angry Birds HD last night to include 15 new levels and continue “the adventures in the frontier badlands”. A new golden egg has been included in version 1.5.3 as well.

Looking at early iTunes reviews, it sounds like Rovio also changed something in the “pause” screen of the app, putting a news section (some people say ads) in there and forcing users to wait for the animation to finish before resuming the game. Angry Birds Rio: 10 Million Downloads In 10 Days

Perhaps Rovio’s success with the Angry Birds franchise doesn’t surprise anymore as much as it did in 2010, but we still think the numbers these games for iOS and Android are generating are impressive. The latest game of the series, Rio, is based on a collaboration with Twentieth Century Fox to merge the gameplay of Angry Birds with the world of Rio. With a tweet, Rovio said that Angry Birds Rio hit “10 in 10″ — suggesting 10 million downloads were achieved in 10 days since the release of the app for iOS and Android devices, both in free and paid editions.

A bit of investigation by Mobile Entertainment has proved that, as expected, said tweet referred to the number of downloads in the same number of days.

Rovio didn’t provide detailed numbers for iPhone, iPad and Android sales, nor did they specify whether the free version was downloaded more than the paid one. Still, 10 million downloads in 10 days is impressive. Now about that

Rovio has released a new Easter-themed update to Angry Bird Seasons for iOS. Unlike the original Angry Birds game, Angry Birds Seasons is another stand-alone app that updates with different themes and levels.

Smartphone phenomenon Angry Birds was downloaded 6.5 million times on Christmas Day, developer Rovio has announced.

The figure includes all three versions of the game - Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio - and counts both paid and free downloads.

According to The Wall Street Journal, that's more than triple what the game managed on the same day in 2010, when it was downloaded two million times.

"We're really excited to have such a massive number of new people get acquainted with Angry Birds over the holidays - we have exciting new releases lined up for 2012, and can't wait to introduce them to the public," commented Rovio's Ville Heijari.

The Finnish developer claims that, as of November 2011, Angry Birds has now been downloaded over 500 million times.

"We think we have a good shot at being the first entertainment brand that has a billion fans," said chief marketing officer Peter Vesterbacka at the time.
