Konami's grisly horror game franchise, Silent Hill, is coming back to movie theaters, this time with a story based on one of its best entries, Silent Hill 3. Like any movie worth watching, it will be filmed in stereoscopic 3D.

 

Fangoria reports that the next Silent Hill flick, Silent Hill Revelation, will tell the tale of Silent Hill 3 star Heather Mason and the search for her father.

 

"For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand," reads the official synopsis. "Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever."

 

The first Silent Hill movie was somewhat loosely based on the plot of the debut PlayStation entry in the series. Original screenwriter Roger Avary will not return for the sequel, according to Fangoria, with Michael J. Bassett taking over writing duties.

Fango’s Tony Timpone just reported in from the American Film Market with news that the long-mooted new SILENT HILL feature is finally ready to go. And no surprise, it’s going to be hitting screens with an extra dimension.

 

SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D in currently in preproduction with Lionsgate, Konami and Davis Films and producers Samuel Hadida and Don Carmody. This entry in the video-game-based movie franchise will be written and directed by Michael J. Bassett, whose credits include DEATHWATCH and WILDERNESS; original HILL scripter Roger Avary was previously set to encore before his recent troubles with the law. Here’s the REVELATION synopsis: “For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.” We’ll keep you posted on further updates.

The original Silent Hill film adaptation didn't set the world on fire, but quietly pulled in a respectable $97.6 million worldwide at the box office. Today, Konami confirmed that the long-discussed sequel, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, has begun filming in Toronto. This is also further confirmation that soon every movie will be in 3D. We expect to get a press release for The King's Speech 2: The Stuttering 3D any moment now.

 

Sean Bean, who starred in Silent Hill (2006), is not announced as returning – presumably he's been too busy with the HBO adaptation of George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones. However, Kit Harington (another Game of Thrones cast member) is starring in the film alongside lead actress Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) [pictured above], who plays the film's main character. Mitchell, Bean and Unger Reunite for Silent Hill: Revelation

 

Davis Films producer Samuel Hadida and Don Carmody announced today that the stars of Silent Hill, Radha Mitchell (The Crazies, Surrogates), Sean Bean (HBO's upcoming series "Game of Thrones," Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, "The Lord of the Rings"), and Deborah Kara Unger (Shake Hands with the Devil, 88 Minutes) will return to join Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Mad Max: Fury Road) and Kit Harington ("Game of Thrones") on Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.

 

Filming in Toronto, Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is based on a screenplay by director Michael Bassett (Solomon Kane, Deathwatch), who is joined by cinematographer Maxime Alexandre (The Crazies, Mirrors, The Hills Have Eyes), production designer Alicia Keywan (The Haunting in Connecticut, Messengers), costume designer Wendy Partridge (Silent Hill, Hellboy, Underworld) and edited by Michele Conroy (Vincenzo Natali's Splice).

 

International sales are being handled by Lionsgate.

 

Bassett said: "It wouldn't be the same without some of the original 'Silent Hill' cast. Sean, Radha and Deborah's return will certainly thrill fans of the franchise and compliment Revelations stars Adelaide and Kit."

 

Alexandre added: "With the most advanced technology available, in particular the lighter, smaller and more flexible 3D Red Epic, we are able to take audiences deeper in the world of 'Silent Hill' than they ever dreamed possible. Devotees will finally be able to enter this realm along side of Heather, Vincent, Harry and Rose and experience the psychological horror and the fear of the unknown with them."

 

Hadida and Carmody most recently produced Resident Evil: Afterlife starring Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, and Wentworth Miller. Past collaborations include Resident Evil: Apocalypse and the earlier Silent Hill.

Carrie-Anne Moss, Malcolm McDowell join cast of Silent Hill: Revelation

 

ComingSoon.net reports that the new Michael J. Bassett-directed Silent Hill: Revelation 3D movie is adding two big stars to its cast. Carrie-Anne Moss (of Memento, though probably better known as Trinity from The Matrix) and A Clockwork Orange's Malcolm McDowell will join series veterans Sean Bean, Radha Mitchell and Deborah Kara Unger in the latest journey to the freaky climes of Silent Hill.

 

Moss will play Claudia Wolf from Silent Hill 3, a mysterious woman who may or may not be evil, and McDowell will play Leonard Wolf, a mysterious (likely English) man who, you guessed it, may or may not be evil. So not really a stretch for these two -- we look forward to seeing the finished product (in 3D!) next year.
