Oddball adventure Catherine is the most successful launch in Atlus' history, the publisher has announced.

 

Exact numbers haven't been offered but Atlus exec Tim Pivnicny confirmed to IGN that the game had broken the loosely-defined record.

 

"Catherine has exceeded our highest expectations," he said.

 

"It released last week to tremendous critical acclaim and fan response, bolstered by the release of a demo a couple weeks prior, and continues to generate discussion among fans for its mature themes, engrossing subject matter, and frantic, challenging gameplay.

 

"It is fitting, then, that Catherine can boast the largest launch in the 20-year history of Atlus, and continues to see strong sales at retail."

 

The game, which tells the story of a philanderer who finds himself trapped inside his own nightmares after embarking on an affair with the titular temptress, is due out in Europe on PS3 and Xbox 360 later this year courtesy of Deep Silver.

Catherine: Full Body is a remake/enhanced port of the 2011 Catherine video game. Full Body will be developed and published by Atlus' Studio Zero Team.

The reason the developers chose the subtitle Full Body is due to its relation to full-bodied wine. Full Body is Catherine with more content (or depth), like a full-bodied wine. It also sounded more erotic, possibly implying the developers are going to increase the eroticness of the game.

Atlus confirmed the game will be localized into English and come to the West.[1] However, it is unknown if any of the English voice actors will return to reprise their roles. It is unclear how much new voice acting will need to be done.

As of the end of 2017, development of the game was noted to be about 50% complete.
