Best Buy apparently believes Diablo 3 isn't far off from launch in North America, as a Rochester, Minnesota-based Twitter user spotted a display for the game in a local Best Buy store showing a February 1 launch for the game alongside a countdown timer. The image was subsequently picked up and pushed to Twitter, where we first saw it. Bizarrely, the tweet has since been pulled, but we snagged the image (addressed to former Joystiq previews editor Arthur Gies -- thanks Arthur!) and tracked down the Best Buy to confirm its existence.

 

A store employee politely assured Joystiq of the endcap's existence and noted the February 1 launch date, which will coincide with a midnight opening (at least at her location). We've reached out to Blizzard Entertainment and Activision for comment, but, well, this looks pretty legit. Oh, and it also doesn't hurt that Best Buy's web store is showing a February 1 launch date for the game.

 

The last official word we heard from Blizzard ("early 2012") was in September 2011, after the game was delayed beyond its original 2011 launch window. When we checked back up with the company during BlizzCon back in October, we were told nothing more solid was ready to be announced in terms of a launch date.

 

Update: UK retailer Gameplay is showing a February 3, 2012 release date for the game, adding more fuel to the fire. Thanks to Twitter user @JKeverne for the tip!

 

Update 2: This piece originally credited the photo to a Canadian Twitter user, which is accurate as to its origin with us, but not accurate to the credit of the photographer. Rochester, Minnesota Chatty Pics user "sasquatchxing" tells us that he took the photo (as well as a second) and uploaded them to image service Chatty Pics before taking to the Shacknews forums.

 

Update 3: It gets more interesting! When we called the Rochester, Minnesota Best Buy this morning, a manager explained that the sign has been taken down as a directive from the store's "GM" (general manager), not because the manufacturer had asked but because the manufacturer has been "not very firm" in picking a launch date. As many had guessed (per the misspelling of "February," among other things), the signage was made in-house and not sent by Blizzard. If you happen to spot any similar signage in your local big box retailer, don't hesitate to contact us!

 

Update 4: Blizzard community manager Micah "Bashiok" Whipple has responded on Twitter (though not to us), where he said both "The word is lol" and "We can't really keep every individual retail shop from making up a date," in response to questions from followers. We're still waiting on official response from Blizzard.

 

PC and Mac role-player Diablo 3 will be released on consoles, Blizzard has confirmed.

 

Blizzard community manager Micah Whiple broke the news via his Twitter feed. No specific platforms were mentioned for the console version, or a release date.

 

When asked if he could confirm or deny rumours the anticipated hack and slash was on the way for consoles, Whiple responded with the affirmative:

 

"Yup. Josh Mosqueira is lead designer for the Diablo console project."

 

Mosqueira previously worked as design director on Company of Heroes at Relic.

 

Diablo 3 is due "early 2012" for PC and Mac.

 

A console version has long been rumoured and various job postings for console-based development roles at Blizzard have previously cropped up.

 

"People don't believe us when we say we're going to make a console game - flat out," Diablo 3 director Jay Wilson said last November, talking of Blizzard's commitment to a console version. "We haven't officially announced a product. We say that because we like our product announcements to be a big deal. We haven't been as secretive about this one because our biggest barrier is actually getting a console team."

Blizzard visi žaidimai nepasižymi ypatinga grafika, bet visi yra žinomiausi ir vieni geriausių. Warcraft 3 dar dabar milijonai žaidžia online, net lietuvos Balticum serveryje žmonių visada bent 500-1000 online būna, ką jau kalbėt apie WoW ar SC1 ir 2. Žodžiu nors ir Blizzardai ilgai kuria žaidimus ir labai daug nukelinėja vistiek moka sukurta tai ko nori žaidėjai ir būna liaupsinami O kas dėl grafikos tai tikrai ne grafikoje žaidimų esmė, o diablo grafika tikrai yra pakankamai gera, vistiek ne į grafika žiurima žaidžiant tokį žaidimą.

Steve Parker, senior game producer of Diablo 3, announced on Twitter last Friday that he is no longer working for Blizzard. "Hey Twitter, I'm no longer working at Blizzard or on D3," he wrote. "I've had a great 5 years there and those guys are going to kill it with Diablo." No further details were given on the reasons for his departure. The announcement was made on the same day that game director Jay Wilson outlined key revisions being made to Diablo 3, while reassuring fans that the continued development time would make the game worth the extra wait. "We want Diablo 3 to be the best game it can be when it launches," he wrote. "To get there, we're going to be iterating on designs we've had in place for a long time, making changes to systems you've spent a lot of time theorycrafting, and removing features you may have come to associate with the core of the experience. "Our hope is that by embracing our iterative design process in which we question ourselves and our decisions, Diablo 3 won't just live up to our expectations, but will continue to do so a decade after it's released." Diablo 3 was originally announced way back in 2008. It's still - hopefully - due for release in 2012.
