The other half of Cole's conscience is embodied in Kuo, an NSA agent working to help him defeat the Beast.

She's the angel on Cole's shoulder. Depending on who's lead you follow, the temptress Nix or the level-headed Kuo, the world of Infamous 2 will change in line with your actions.

We’re excited to be at the event, and for the first time, reveal how our duality/morality system will work in inFAMOUS 2.

 

Karma moments from inFAMOUS now represented by character driven dialogue and 3D mocap cutscenes. Your conscience comes into play with the introduction of Kuo and Nix, two NPC characters. Kuo is a NSA agent working to help Cole defeat the Beast. Nix is a New Marais native that grew up in the swamps around New Marias, whose hatred for Bertrand stems from witnessing him kill her family. She is your hedonistic guide that coaxes Cole into not thinking about the consequences of his actions.

 

There will be multiple crossroads where Cole will decide to follow Kuo’s lead or give into Nix’s temptations. Your choices will directly affect the gameplay by permanently remaining in the world. Whatever path you choose, remember in inFAMOUS 2 you can always change your mind for it’s never too late to look for redemption or to say “Hell with it” and become selfish.

 

Attendees of the show will get to go hand’s on with the Good or Evil version of the Save Kuo mission. Two allies. Two plans of attack. A choice to follow Zeke’s plan and get the help of the captured police by taking out the convoy guarded by the Militia. Then proceed to assault the Militia compound with the army of cops to free Kuo. Or, side with Nix and her destructive plan to ram a trolley filled with explosives through the front gate and fight alongside Nix to free Kuo. The choice is yours!

inFamous 2 Hero Edition

The identity of the gaming industry's first big 2011 summer blockbuster has been revealed: Sony Computer Entertainment and Sucker Punch Productions have announced that the follow-up to 2009's ionically-charged sandbox title, inFamous, will hit U.S. store shelves on June 7. The publisher also confirmed that the inFamous 2 Hero Edition is a real thing you'll be able to buy for $99.99, which nets you the game, an 8.5-inch statue of Cole, a replica messenger bag, a mini-comic, the game's soundtrack and a bevy of vouchers for downloadable content.

 

If you want to snag said content without springing for the deluxe edition, it's been broken down piecemeal as pre-order bonuses from various retailers:

Folks who reserve the game on Amazon will get the 24K Gold version of Cole's "Amp" weapon.

Shoppers at Best Buy can grab a character skin modeled after inFamous' antagonist, Kessler.

Pre-orders at GameStop net you the telekinetic "Lightning Hook" power.

Walmart is offering pre-orderers the radical-sounding "Electrocution Grenade" ability.

Personally, we think it's totally awesome that they chose to release the game on the first day of E3, ensuring that we'll have to go the better part of a week after its release without playing it. We hope you guys don't mind showing a little solidarity by holding off your enjoyment until we get back. (Or, at the very least, just don't Tweet about it. Please?) Infamous 2's Mission Creator

 

Infamous 2 Will Have, In Theory, An Infinite Number of Levels Thanks To You

 

Revealing a secret they say they held for two years, the game developers at Sucker Punch said today that Infamous 2, their open world electrified super-hero game, will let people create their own levels for the game.

 

The goals for the June 7 PlayStation 3 exclusive, as described here in San Francisco at the Game Developers Conference, is to let players feel like game designers and to make Infamous 2 never end.

 

"We think this is an opportunity for people to become famous," Sucker Punch's Chris Zimmerman said, "and for them to become famous for the cool levels they put in the game."

 

Players will be able to make platforming levels, search and destroy adventures, combat missions, escort missions, shooting galleries and even puzzle missions, skeet shooting and lots of other types players can dream up. The obvious influence is the PlayStation 3's mod-heavy LittleBigPlanet, though now set in a more Grand-Theft-Auto-style open world of a huge open city full of bad guys to shoot (with electricity from the protagonist's super-powered hands).

 

A trailer for the user-created missions showed the game's hero Cole jumping across suspended rows of debris, of battling hordes of enemies and doing the things that Infamous 2's designers are letting players do in their own missions. Zimmerman told me that players will be able to write dialogue for their missions, cast the main game's supporting characters in their own adventures and, hey, even create the kind of point-farming missions that cheaters and exploiters like to do in any game that supports user-generated content (two checks on that: you won't be able to earn karma points from the missions you create; you won't be able to earn points from others' missions more than once.)

 

At the showcase event for the new feature, Sucker Punch let me try a quartet of what would be user-made levels. There was a rooftop race through glowing rings, a shooting gallery challenge that pitted Cole on a bridge firing at rushing hordes of enemies, a puzzle mission that challenged the player to knock down all of the enemies standing on floating platforms that surrounded a tall tower and an adventure mission that let Cole and some computer-controlled allies rush an enemy encampment in an attempt to disarm a bomb. All the missions were timed.

 

The game's user-made missions won't be hard to find. Glowing green circles representing player-made missions will be shown throughout the game's open world. An Infamous 2 player can set filters, requesting that the game shows nodes in the world that represent, say, only the best user-made shooter missions or the newest platforming missions. The default setting for people playing the game will be to show nodes designated as Sucker Punch Featured Content. Those missions will be the highest-rated and most-played, one notch above "famous" ranking. All of the missions can be user-rated, are credited to the creator and can be remixed by other players.

 

The new level-creation tools will get a public test run in April when the game's beta kicks off. Details of the beta will be revealed on March 14 and the best of the levels created during the beta trial will be accessible to Infamous 2 players when the game comes out on the PlayStation 3 in June.

 

This kind of feature doesn't just draw on the ideas of LittleBigPlanet but appears like the kind of feature designed to make people feel like keeping their copy of a video game. If there are new missions all the time, surely the game's creators are hoping you'd not feel the need to trade this one in.

In an interview, Ken Schramm, Communications Director at developer Sucker Punch had the following to say:

 

We really wanted to pump everything we did in inFamous up to another level, and as we’ve got an even better understanding of PlayStation 3 now, ramping up the visual power has been easier. You’ll notice it by the number of characters on-screen at any one time and the quantity of breakable objects. We think you’ll love the way we’ve used motion capture to create animations for our stars, too.
