“First True Digital 3D Console Game” Hits XBLA, PSN

Namco Bandai has released the “first true digital 3D console game,” Blitz Arcade’s Invincible Tiger: The Legend Of Han Tao, via Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.

 

Available for 1200 MS points/$15, the downloadable kung-fu fighter is a retro-style arcade beat ‘em up designed to work as a 2D experience, as well as with all 3D Ready TVs and a selection of PC 3D gaming displays.

 

“We’re really pleased with Invincible Tiger; it’s been quite a journey getting to this stage and it’s brilliant to see such a quality game at the end of it. We aimed to first make a great retro-arcade game that’s easy to play but difficult to master first and then included a great digital 3D experience second,” said Blitz Arcade’s Ollie Clarke, who designed the concept.

 

Speaking at GDC Europe last week, Blitz Games Studios CEO Andrew Oliver said that games have the potential to drive sales of 3D-capable TVs in the same way that they have driven adoption of HD TVs. “People ask if 3D is really going to happen, but we're past that now,” he said. “It's happening. The technology is here.”

PSN Gets its First 3D Game Tomorrow

3D Gaming has been a hot topic recently, ever since 3D gaming made a big splash earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show. Up until now, there haven’t been any 3D games available for the PSN…

 

This week, the PSN will get it’s first 3D game, the side-scrolling beat-em-up, Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao. You will need a pair of classic “red & blue” 3D glasses to see the anaglyphic 3D effects. Or, you’ll need a DLP HDTV capable of stereoscopic 3D.

 

If you don’t have a pair of 3D glasses, just go to the official Invincible Tiger website. Although it’s still listed as “coming soon”, there is an option to get a free pair of 3D glasses courtesy of Publisher Namco Bandai and Developer Blitz Arcade.

 

Invincible Tiger will be available this Thursday (as in tomorrow) on the PS Store, and is out now on Xbox Live.
