Valkyria Chronicles 2: The Gaul Royal Military Academy

The latest issue of Famitsu revealed a nice little surprise for many. The first information to Valkyria Chronicles 2 and to the surprise of many, the game will see release on the PSP. Set for a winter release, Valkyria Chronicles 2 will play out like the PS3 title in most ways.

Valkyria Chronicles was a PS3 game. Valkyria Chronicles 2 is not. It’s a PSP game, and here is its localised title: Valkyria Chronicles 2: The Gaul Royal Military Academy.

Announced in the newest issue of Japanese game magazine Famitsu, the game is set in 1937, two years after the first game. Cadets from the Gaul Royal Military Academy are sent to suppress an insurrection in the southern part of in-game country Gaul.

The game’s central concept is contrasting the world of the military academy with war. Valkyria Chronicles 2 is due out this winter in Japan.

taigi antra dalis tik PSP !! :thumbsup4: atrodo psp tikrai atgime :D

Famitsu spilled the beans on Valkyria Chronicles 2: The Royal Military Academy of Gallia. The story takes place two years after Valkyria Chronicles and introduces a new cast of characters. Even though this game is for PSP it uses the watercolor style CANVAS engine.

Sega explains the concept of the game is “school + war”. You control a group of military cadets as they head for battles in the south. Similar to Persona 3 and Mana Khemia seasons change and different school events come up.

The Valkyria Chronicles 2 site also provides a list of staff working on the game. Let us take a gander at it.

*

Shuntaro Tanaka - He is chief producer and apparently the dude that updated the blog with all the nice information. Thanks Shuntaro! He was chief director for the first game, also worked on Sakura Taisen 1 and 2, as well as fan favorite RPG, Skies of Arcadia.

*

Shinji Motoyama - This man will be the producer (not to be confused with chief producer). You might know him from his Sega Bleach games, that is right, the Sega ones, not the Treasure made ones. His other works include Nighshade (Kunoichi) and Blood Will Tell (Dororo).

*

Take Ozawa - Here is the director. I wonder if he gets his own director’s chair? Maybe. He was the main planner for the original game. His other works include Doraemon Nobita no Shinmakai Daibouken (Japan only) for DS.

*

Raita Honjo - Character designer, means that he draws all the silly drawings and characters in the game. Hate the design? He is the one to blame. He did character work for the first game, you know, the one on PS3.

*

Hitoshi Sakimoto - He is doing the music. He did the music for the first game and a ton of other games. Including Final Fantasy XII and Radiant Silvergun. Click here to see his discography.

More details are out about Valkyria Chronicles 2 including character descriptions and combat changes.

The games protagonist is a 17 year old man named Aban Hadensu. He has entered the Rashiiru Royal Cadet Academy in order to find out the reason behind his older brother's death. Aban is the leader of G Class at the academy.

The Game's second protagonist is 17 year old Zeri, a close friend of Aban's. Zeri apears cool on the outside but has a burning secret inside of him. He is a very rational minded person who often butts heads with the more passion driven Aban.

The third main protagonist of the game is Cozetto Couruhaasu. She is a bright and serious 17 year old who is always running in circles trying to do things. Her actions tend to set the mood in G Class.

A fourth character has also been shown. From her image we can see that she carries a Valkyrian shield and whip. But other than her appearance nothing else has been revealed.

The three protagonist students are enrolled at the academy and lead seemingly normal student lives, however, they must also take part in the war that has broken out in Principality of Gallia. How this new School and War concept plays out is an integral part of the story.

The game retains the BLiTZ combat system from the original. The player can view the battle from the third person view. There is also a command mode in which the player can give out orders to the units.

One new change to the game though is how characters level up. In the original the characters levelled up according to their class, but in the sequel the characters can level up in different classes once certain requirements have been met.

The use of tanks has also been expanded upon. The player can customize them to change their performance in battle.

A Glimpse Of Valkyria Chronicles 2’s Branching Class System

Valkyria Chronicles 2 has more classes than Valkyria Chronicles. Way more classes. There are 35 types of military units you can control in the sequel.

The diagram shows two branching choices for Avan, one of the game’s new heroes. It isn’t clear what each class offers, but a screenshot shows parameter boosts like extra hit points and defense for one track.

-There are a few details on a new class: Shield-type soldiers. They carry around a giant, riot police-looking shield with them, and attack physically by swinging a giant spanner. Whether they also have some sort of distance weapon isn’t exactly clear, nor is where they fit into the traditional unit triangle (Foot Soldiers/Anti-Tank Soldiers/Tanks). They also have the ability to disarm land mines, an ability used by Engineers in the first game.

-There’s a new main character revealed: Yuriana Evelhart. She’s the top of the top in the school, in the A class. Avan and company are in the G class, so she looks down on them. She’s every highschool snob ever, but luckily it looks like the player can smack her around a bit in a boss battle. She’s a Shield-type soldier.

-A selection of secondary characters are revealed, all students in the G class with Avan and company: Colleen Celcius, Nicol Martin, Raymond Moen, Magali, Eric Kampman, and Joachim Osen. Avan can slowly get to know his classmates outside of the main story, conversing with them during school life to trigger events. Their profiles expand as the player gets to know each character a little better, unlocking information about their memories.

-The scans also mention the return of the Order and Potential systems, and links them to the Morale stat.
