Japanese PSP hacker Mamosuke has announced that he’s successfully managed to get the “hello world” application running on the PlayStation Vita through the embedded PlayStation Portable emulator.

 

Technically, the idea behind the hack is simple but brilliant: the PS Vita has a PSP emulator, and we have plenty of PSP game exploits lying around… can we assume they will work on the emulator? That’s what teck4 tried, and the answer is yes, so he managed to run unsigned code on the PS Vita.

 

Practically, although this is good news, there are a bunch of obstacles which will probably not make the exploit so interesting for most users (at least not yet): First of all, the exploit happens within the PSP emulator on the Vita, and will not directly give access to the Vita hardware or features.

I read lot’s of article around the world about this Hello World on Vita and I found so many “this is fake,right?”…No, this is not a fake. But you have to think this is inevitable result because of emulation.

 

And you can find “Hello World for PSP Firmware 6.31 by Teck4″ and say “Why 6.31?”

 

Teck4 have some savegame exploits. These were found when PSP lastest firmware was 6.31. He tried to run his unsigned code without any modification..including the letter “6.31″

 

That’s why “6.31″ was displayed in his Hello World.

 

His exploit use buffer overflow of the system and, you know, what we call “Usemode exploit”, So do not expect kernel hacking from it.

 

I know his exploit and I know he is not a faker. That’s real. But I think this shows us that emulation tech on vita is brilliant, NOT “PS Vita is hackable!”

A smattering of sales statistics have emerged based on PlayStation Vita’s day one sales figures.

 

It looks like ‘select stores’ have been selling out of the Wi-Fi model, with estimated sellthrough of that particular version at around 85%. The 3G version is currently at around 56%.

 

The top selling games are Everybody’s Golf 6, Uncharted and Dynasty Warriors, with the DLC-based 30fps Ridge Racer ‘uncharacteristically’ slow. Looks like people are wise to NAMCO’s methods.

 

Stock of memory cards is low, with the 32GB and 16GB units sold out. 90% of Vita buyers bought a memory card. The software tie is at 1:1.

Will you be able to transfer your old PSP game data to the new device?

 

This one’s still up in the air, but the latest reports suggest that Sony is working on making it happen so we’ll keep a close eye on it. Yes, you heard right. There will be three categories of games. Some games won’t even boot up unless you have a memory card. Others will boot up but won’t let you save in-game data without a card. Still others will let you run and save games without a problem whether or not you have a memory card. But since some of the most popular games for Vita fall in one of the first two categories, just about everyone is advising that a memory card is indispensable.

 

How long will I be able to play my games without being plugged in to an outlet?

 

Most sources are saying you should be able to go 3-5 hours without needing a recharge. What’s more, Sony will offer a portable charger so you can always have an extra battery on hand.

 

Additional Quick Notes:

 

Unlike the original PSP where the brightness setting can’t be fine-tuned and only has a few preset options, the PS Vita will allow you full control over the percentage of brightness.

One thing that will remain the same is the sleep feature that lets you put the handheld into standby mode with the tap of the power button. You’ll also be able to suspend game play like with the Playstation 3 to chat with friends and so on.
