Luffy is bringing the gamers to sea once again in Kaizoku Musou 2. Sail with the crew to the new world and see what new skills they have learned during the time skip. New characters are joining the fray, and stages that didn't make it to the previous instalment is packed into this new game.

Soul Sacrifice: Release date and pre-order extras revealed

Set your alarms! Wake-Up Club arrives on PS Vita next week

Hi everyone. I am pleased to let you know that a brand new free app for PS Vita called Wake-Up Club arrives on PlayStation Store next Wednesday. This is a fun app that will help you get up on time in the morning and has some neat extras such as support for Trophies.

The app features two modes, Alarm Clock mode and Wake-up Club mode.

In Alarm Clock mode, you can easily set an alarm using a selection of themes and alarm sounds. There are 10 themes in total including Tokyo Jungle and Journey themes. For more themes, visit PlayStation Store to download add-ons which will be released at the same time as the app itself.

In Wake-up Club mode, you can set an alarm to be part of a club with up to 11 other players who have set the same alarm time as you. Tap your on-screen avatar as quickly as you can when you wake up to win the competition and prod your friends’ avatar to wake them up if they’re still sleeping! Check your wake-up success rate result and progress to collect trophies as you play.

Fast-paced, giant-crushing, poring-popping Ragnarok Odyssey is finally coming to Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, so I’ve got just one question to ask you: What do you think of when you hear the word “Ragnarok”?

 

Looking back to my Halcyon Ragnarok Online days, I fondly recall getting together with friends to smash tons of crazy monsters and cower in terror at the mighty MVPs. I think of crossing my fingers while the blacksmith mercilessly refined my precious gear – will this be the time it breaks??? But mostly, I think of collecting coveted cards and donning decadent headgears. Ragnarok Odyssey brings you all of this and more as it takes this beloved IP into a new generation of action-RPG gaming.

 

 

While customising your hero, you will get to choose from a variety of classes, some with familiar skills and spells. Storm Gust still hits like a beast, Sanctuary provides much needed AoE healing, and the Archer’s Arrow Shower still rains death upon foes. On top of these fan favorites, you also get to experience completely new abilities like those of the incredibly powerful Hammersmith.

 

 

If you can time your drill spin and acclimate yourself to the incredibly slow movement and attack speeds, you will pummel even the toughest foes in no time! Of course, defeating foes means nothing if they don’t drop the ever important loot with which you upgrade your goodies.

 

The local blacksmith is no longer a horrible, scary person since he doesn’t break your gear, but he still won’t refine your goods for free. As you take on mission after mission, you will gather bits and pieces of monsters that become the +1′s to your swords, and the charming Poring hats on your head. Just about everything you want takes some kind of material found in the field, and of course, the signature Zeny currency.

 

It wouldn’t be Ragnarok if the monsters didn’t also have a chance to drop their cards. The drop rate may be a lot higher, but these precious rarities are still just as crucial as they ever were. Each card will augment your stats and abilities. Sometimes they act as a double edged sword by increasing one ability at the expense of another. It’s up to you to decide the right balance for your build.

 

This game also utilises different costumes that have a limited number of card slots. You can visit the tailor (with Zeny and materials) and increase the amount of card space you have available.

Once you are properly outfitted, it’s time to tackle some missions. You have the choice to go solo or join up to three friends (local or online), but whatever you do, don’t accidentally venture into the multiplayer tavern alone! Mission difficulty scales up pretty drastically, so don’t try to solo a group mission unless you are ready to put your skills to the test!

 

In describing this game, it’s impossible to avoid comparisons to certain other action/RPG games that have you hunting monsters, but in all honesty, such similarities are shallow at best! While you will get to enjoy the thrilling challenge of taking on enemies several times your size, your hero fights with a unique combo system that lets you unleash a variety of powerful skills. You can play baseball with Porings or knock an Orc sky-high, only to follow him into the air and continue your devastating onslaught.

 

 

 

For lack of any better words to describe it, the game just feels different from its co-op action RPG brethren. If only there was some way for you so sample the game…

 

That’s where the demo comes in!

 

Choose from three available classes: Sword Warrior, Assassin, or Cleric, and set out on sample missions to get a taste of mercenary life. The first two take place in the scenic Idavoll Plains, and they allow you to ease your way into the game. They also give you a taste of that first sweet, sweet giant boss battle. Keep in mind, as tough as this Orc King may seem, you will face foes exponentially larger and more deadly in the full version!

 

Lastly, we have a wolf hunt in Thor’s Volcano. The change of scenery is nice, but you will quickly notice that the seasoned adventurer’s journey becomes much more perilous as you venture further from those pretty green plains. Do you have what it takes to bring some order back to the Sundered Land?

 

The Ragnarok Odyssey demo is available later today, and the full version will be released on the PlayStation Store in Europe, Australia and New Zealand on 20th February 2013 for €29.99.

Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken flies onto PS Vita next week

 

Hi, my name is Sian Yue Tan and I’m happy to announce that Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken for PlayStation Vita will be available very soon indeed – 13th February.

 

The game is already available in Asia, where it was bundled with the PS Vita over Christmas. Since then, it became one of the top three downloadable PS Vita games for December in Hong Kong, which is awesome!

 

In this game, you’ll take control of Hardboiled Chicken, the original Cock of War (a chicken so tough, he survived being boiled as a fetus), to lead the rebellion against the draconian penguin oppressors to overthrow their hold on Albatropolis!

 

It’s an old-school cinematic action adventure set in the Rocketbirds universe, a world filled with some despicable and often violent birds.

The game sports jetpacking sections, Stab-Action in the Hardboiled Difficulty setting, mind controlling Brainbugs, some pretty nifty PS Vita controls, sweet music videos and an ad-hoc/online co-operative mode with its own separate campaign!

 

There’s something tragic about flightless birds, so, if they did grow to man-sized proportions and had the brains to come up with some tech, they would – I’m sure of it – make jetpacks. That and Zeppelins – with big screens, so that they can expunge their oppressive propaganda – would probably be some of the first things on their list. And mini helicopter packs. So, three things.

 

The Stab-Action forms part of the Hardboiled difficulty setting, where Hardboiled gets limited ammo, a deagle and an uzi, but one very large knife to complete the game with.

 

To do this right, you’ll need to use the weapons icon, which is located at the top right of the touchscreen. Tapping the icon will auto-switch you between your last two weapons so you can quickly switch between the knife and your gun to close the gap between Hardboiled and the Penguin that’s trying to shoot you.

 

You can also slide this icon to cycle between the weapons in your inventory, or open up your inventory with the D-Pad. In Hardboiled mode, you’ll also need to defeat a different end boss than in Normal mode, but I feel I’ve given away much too much now.

 

The single player game takes you through 15 chapters of full-res Penguin destruction with music video storytelling – and for the PS Vita, we wired the screens to the built-in motion sensors, so you can counter-tilt the detailed, non-scrolling screens at will – and it looks great.

 

And finally, in the 10-chapter co-op campaign you and a friend can choose two of the six Dirty-Half-Dozen Budgie Commandos to go and rescue the General’s daughter, who has been bird-napped by Penguins in Albatropolis. To better fit with the portable nature of the game, you’ll be able to connect with a friend via online or ad-hoc mode for cooperative play.

Agent-H budgie is wielding a custom Photon Blaster – with sound effects created by H himself!

Dead or Alive 5+: Touch Fight gameplay detailed for PS Vita

 

Greeting PlayStation Blog. Today we are going to share the new Touch Fight and training details that will be available for the first time in Dead or Alive 5+ for PlayStation Vita, due in stores from 22nd March 2013.

 

As fans await the game’s launch, Team Ninja is helping dedicated players get ready for the new, more personal style of touch combat that maximizes the PS Vita’s gorgeous OLED display by putting the opponent front and center. In the competitive world of DOA fighting, those who are best prepared will be the first ones to top the leaderboards!

 

With previously announced features such as triple the amount of frame data and impressive cross-device functionality with shared purchases and cross-platform online matches, Dead or Alive 5+ is shaping up to set a new benchmark for handheld combat.

 

The intuitive “Touch Fight” mode, newly created for Dead or Alive 5+, lets players attack opponents with simple taps or swipes of the touchscreen, offering a second fighting mode alongside traditional button-based control. In this mode, combat is shown from a first-person perspective to put players in the middle of the action for the most intuitive DOA fighting experience to date.

 

Players can hold the PS Vita horizontally for a full widescreen view of the interactive battle stage, or vertically to enjoy a close-up view of the opposing character.

 

 

A range of attacks are available via touch and swipe, and landing a five-hit combo will trigger a Critical Burst, leaving an opponent open for even more punishment. Characters will react based on where they are touched or attacked, combining the realistic feel of a first-person view with full player control. Swiping in different directions unleashes different moves.

 

For instance, swipe upward to launch your opponent flying into the air, opening up the opportunity to perform an air combo. Pinching the touchscreen will result in a hold if your opponent is striking or a throw if your opponent is guarding, standing, or executing a hold. When a throw or Power Blow is executed, the screen perspective changes to a cinematic view so players can enjoy watching their character dish out the punishment.

 

To help players master the intense martial arts techniques available in Dead or Alive 5+, the game includes several new training modes. In “Free Training” mode, players can choose exactly which moves and combos they want to practice. Serious fighters can to take their skills to the next level by isolating their weak points and drilling them to perfection.

 

In “Command Training”, players practice the moves of each character until they become second nature, advancing to the next move only after they master the previous one – but if they get stuck they can watch move demos to help master it.

 

“Tutorial” mode gives players a solid grounding from basic moves to advanced combos and fighting strategy, with both lesson and mission segments to learn and then test the moves in action.

 

Finally, “Combo Challenge” allows players to select a character they truly want to master and then practice that character’s key moves and combos until they can be summoned instinctively without hesitation.

See that red text at the bottom of those PlayStation Vita promotional posters? That's the sign of victory. After having its price slashed to just ¥19,980 yesterday, Sony’s struggling handheld has finally started flying off the shelves, with the above Akihabara retailer only having two models left in stock.

 

The image won’t mean much until we get official sales data next week – we don’t know how much stock the retailer had in the first place, after all – but it at least shows that the handheld is finally starting to move units in its home region. Let’s hope that the price cut prompts a mini resurgence for the system over the coming months.
