In Capcom's Monster Hunter franchise, you hunt monsters. In the newly announced God Eaters from Namco Bandai, you hunt monsters.

 

Out this fall in Japan, God Eaters also offers goodies like character creation and the ability to customize and make weapons (sound familiar?), and like MH, this PSP titles has four player co-op. Just be glad they didn't call it God Eater Hunters.

 

Or maybe, shame they didn't!

God Eater Director Promises Major Quality Up

The God Eater official site depresses me with the melancholy theme that's used for its background. It's fitting, actually, for what appears to be a delay.

 

The game's release date at the official site changed at some point from Fall to Winter. From what I can see, Namco Bandai didn't actually announce this -- it just changed the date at the site. And with no real warning either, as just yesterday the press was given a huge library of media totaling over 200 screenshots. Seriously, 200!

 

(The only reason I noticed the date change was because of an update at Game Jouhou.)

 

The official site contains some hints that something is, or at least was, up with the project. In the "Message from Project G.E." section of the site, director Hiroshi Yoshimura wrote recently (there are no dates at the site, so I really don't know when it was written) "At present, in order to fully satisfy everyone who's looking forward to the game, we're working away at large scale quality up work."

 

The post continues to explain that the staff is working on improving areas outside of the graphics, including the game's action component, difficulty level, sound output, and more.

 

Based off the earlier trailers and screenshots, I was got the feeling that God Eater was one of the better looking PSP games out there. Perhaps there was something amiss when it ran on actual hardware? Or maybe there was nothing actually wrong with the game and Yoshimura was just talking about general upgrades to the product.

The man’s name is Rindo, and the woman is called Sakuya.
