Are Trophies Coming For PSone and PS2 Classics?

A new Sony patent would let it happen seamlessly.

I admit it: I love me some PlayStation Network Trophies. And one thing that’s always frustrated me is the lack of Trophy support on PSone and PS2 Classics, as well as older pre-Trophy PS3 games like Resistance: Fall of Man, Heavenly Sword and Folklore. But a new, recently-filed Sony patent application may solve this problem.

 

A method and apparatus for adding trophy support [to] games that do not have trophies without modifying the original game. The method and apparatus are used to detect particular disk access, use the detected disk access as potential trophy triggers in games, and recognize the triggers while a game is played. Trophies are awarded based on the triggers, and the awarded trophies are stored.

 

 

What does that mean? It’s simple. Games that don’t inherently support Trophies can -- with the technology behind this patent -- be remotely patched without ever having to alter the original title. What holds many companies back from going back to patch old games for Trophies is the cost of doing so, not only with internal resources, but because the game must be recertified thereafter, which costs extra cash.

Creating the unique world of Wonderbook: Diggs Nightcrawler

 

Hello everyone. We’re really pleased to lift the curtain on the development of Diggs Nightcrawler in this first video diary. And what better place to start than with our collaboration with the talented and highly creative team at Moonbot Studios and how they created the unique world of Library City and its cast of colourful characters for this exclusive experience on Wonderbook.

 

With the book as the starting point, the world, the characters, the story and the interactions were born (or as Humpty would say, “hatched”). A detective bookworm who knows he’s inside a book, whose world is made from books, and who travels throughout the course of the game to different sections of the library, meeting unique characters along the way. And being Wonderbook this is no ordinary hardcover. The world that the characters inhabit is in your hands, creating novel ways of interacting with the game.

For the first time ever, thatgamecompany’s mini-games Gravediggers, Duke War!!, and Nostril Shot, will be available to play outside of the studio. The games are all multiplayer so sit down with a friend and see who can figure out the controls first to get the early advantage!

 

The compilation will be launched on the store today, Wednesday 17th April, but for those who still enjoy physical goods, don’t fret! It will also be coming out on Blu-ray later this year. It will be hitting the shelves this summer, with added DLC to justify the wait. Exclusive to the physical version will be PSN avatars, including never before released Journey and Flower avatars.

Exciting news! KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 ReMIX is now available to pre-order across Europe, so get the jump on everybody else and make sure you don’t miss out.

Not only that – as well as the standard edition, you can also pick up a special limited run art book edition from selected retailers, which includes artwork for each of the titles in the pack.

But you’d best hurry – those versions of the game are bound to get snapped up sharpish.

The game’s out 13th September in PAL territories for the PlayStation 3, and we’re pretty confident it’ll be the best HD update you’ll have seen so far.
