Alan Wake II

Overview

Alan Wake II is a supernatural survival horror game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published digitally by Epic Games for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 27, 2023.

A sequel to the 2010 game Alan Wake, Alan Wake II makes use of Remedy's modern Northlight Engine while reworking the original's action-heavy gameplay to a more traditional survival horror experience. Along with a new side-protagonist (FBI agent Saga Anderson), the game introduces some new concepts, including the "Mind Place": a dedicated thought-space that the player can enter to-and-from at any time to research clues.

Set in the year 2023, thirteen years after the events of the original game, the story starts with FBI agents Saga Anderson and Alex Casey investigating a ritualistic murder in the town of Bright Falls. As the situation gets more increasingly bizarre, including pieces of a horror story manuscript that hints their every action, they encounter the missing writer Alan Wake, who is struggling to remember how he escaped from his captivity.

Along with callbacks to the original game, this game features numerous references to the 2019 game Control, as it was established in that game that the two have shared universes.
